UPCOMING LIVE LECTURE PRESENTATION
Edmonton, AB – April 29-30, 2024

Training Overview

This training course is essential for anyone involved in the inspection and oversight for the construction of energy transportation facility projects in the Canadian Energy Pipeline sector.

Whether your responsibilities include project management, design management, facility inspection, or integrity, this training provides a comprehensive knowledge base for the mandatory application of CSA Z662 oversight aspects of pipeline facility construction. Training on your responsibilities with respect to civil, pressure, and electrical requirements are also covered.

Detailed instruction on the application of the sections 6 thru 10 is supplemented with instruction on elements of facilities falling under non-pipeline authorities such as pressure vessel safety and electrical safety.

The training provides concept identification and explanations with direct reference to Regulatory Mandates in addition to CAPP and API recommendations. API recommendations that do not meet Canadian requirements are clearly identified to ensure the applicant is able to effectively write the US or Canadian examination.

The CER onshore pipeline regulations are reviewed with reference to some Provincial statutes providing a clear understanding of the authority and application of enforceable requirements.

Details on monitoring and recording competency verification, task execution, permitting and project performance oversight are provided.

This course provides the necessary background and prerequisite to enable participants to write the Canadian or API versions of the 1184 Pipeline Facility Construction Qualification exam. Regulatory and Code examples used in the training are based on the presentation location. This training is also suitable for inspectors who already carry a foreign 1184 credential but require evidence of training to the CSA Z662:23 to meet regulatory obligations.

On Demand & Remote Access to Training

This course contains both online training videos and a live lecture.

Students are encouraged to ask questions during the live lecture and will have access to the instructor at the conclusion of online modules.

All courses require access to a suitable electronic device (computer/laptop/tablet) with an internet connection for access to the training dashboard and videos.

Electronic devices are not required during attendance at the Live Lecture.

Students will establish a unique login credential for accessing the Training Dashboard during the registration process.

Seminar Overview

This in-depth 3-day course provides critical training on the minimum mandatory management processes required for the procurement of materials and construction of Oil and Gas Pipeline Facilities in Canada. The course begins with a review of the management process mandated by section 3 and quickly moves into the technical requirements for the construction of pipeline facilities detailed in the CSA Z662:23. This training includes concepts related to code breaks, civil engineering aspects, B51 pressure vessel and process piping, and electrical. Testing requirements are also covered in detail.

Learning Objectives

This one-day course provides participants with an overview of the CSA Z662:23 construction requirements. Upon completion participants will:

  • Gain a solid understanding of the minimum requirements to provide oversight of the facility construction processes
  • Understand the prescriptive requirements for construction as part of the mandatory Safety and Loss Management System
  • Understand the application of competency assessment for both staff and contractors
  • Understand the minimum documentation and verification requirements for a facility construction projects
  • Understand the minimum record keeping requirements for compliant construction projects
  • Understand the testing requirements mandated for Canadian facilities and how they differ from other countries such as the US and Europe
  • Understand the application of the Canadian Electric Code to Oil and Gas Facilities in Canada and the differences in from other countries
  • Understand the application of other codes of construction such as the ASME B31.3 under the Canadian system.

Participants will receive a Course Completion Certificate and CEU credits.

Agenda

Doors open at 7:30 am and training is from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on day 1 and 8:00 am to 1:00 pm on day 2 followed by the Canadian qualification exam.

The lecture and course videos will address the following:

  • Introduction and review of the CSA Z662:23 and Canadian regulatory system
  • Application limits of the API 1184 in Canadian jurisdictions
  • CSA B51 requirements respecting pressure vessels and pressure piping
  • Canadian Electrical Code framework and regulatory requirements
  • Structural support and building code mandates for piping, equipment, and enclosures
  • Scope of pipeline facilities under the CSA Z662:23
  • Mandatory management system requirements for facility design, material procurement
  • Mandatory management system requirements for construction and multi-jurisdictional requirements
  • Minimum safety requirements and managing risk
  • Service fluid considerations including hydrogen
  • Minimum documentation requirements
  • Facility welding requirements and demarcations between Z662 cl. 7 and ASME part IX
  • Canadian facility testing requirements
  • Commissioning and turnover packages

In order to execute compliant pipeline construction facility projects in the Canadian energy transportation sector, the CSA Z662:23 requires personnel to be trained and qualified for their assigned roles and responsibilities. This course content is designed to provide a detailed understanding of the requirements for those involved in any aspect of pipeline facility construction and oversight.

Assessment Method

The course includes interactive exercises and discussion throughout for added learning value and retention. This course of study is acceptable preparation to write the CPAC Level 3 Pipeline Facility Construction Technician or, the Level 4 API 1184 Facility Construction Inspector for those participants meeting the prerequisite requirements.
